						<description>Our latest News</description><item><pubDate>Mon, 06 Feb 2012 11:53:am GMT</pubDate><title><![CDATA[Supported Housing Manager secures London Marathon place for Welsh Charity]]></title><link>http://www.cantref.co.uk/en/about/news/134</link><description><![CDATA[<a href="http://www.cantref.co.uk/en/about/news/134"><img src="images/listImages/1913_134_image_Louise Webster_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" border="0" /></a><p><b>A supported housing manager has secured a charity place for the Virgin London marathon in April running for Wales&rsquo; leading cancer charity. </b></p><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">Louise Webster, who works at Cymdeithas Tai Cantref in Newcastle Emlyn, will be running the London marathon on Sunday 22 April to support Tenovus.</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">Tenovus is a Welsh cancer charity that invests around &pound;3.9 million each year in pioneering cancer research, education and patient care.</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">This will be the fourth time Louise has run the London marathon raising approximately &pound;4,000<span style="color: red"> for MS Society, Tenovus and Amser Justin Time, the pancreatic cancer charity for Wales. </span></div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">Louise said: &ldquo;I have chosen&nbsp;once again to fundraise for a cancer charity&nbsp;as I know lots of people who have been and are affected by cancer; this cruel disease.</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">&ldquo;Training is going well. I am doing four training sessions a week combining hill sessions on the bike with kettlebar workouts to build strength in the legs and of course runs. On the weekend I do a long run and am currently clocking up 13 miles in one session.&rdquo;</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">&ldquo;I would highly recommend anyone who enjoys running and want a challenge to sign up to the London Marathon or at least go along as a spectator. The excitement, comradeship and exhilaration of the day is just brilliant.&rdquo;</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">The London marathon is one of the biggest running events in the world with 35,000 people expected to pound the street of the capital to tackle the 26.2 mile course. The event has raised over &pound;450 million for charity since it was established in 1981.</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">Tenovus chief executive Claudia McVie said: &ldquo;Tenovus provides essential treatment, advice and support for cancer patients and their families throughout Wales. We do this where it is needed most &ndash; right in the heart of the community.</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">&nbsp;</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">&ldquo;But we could not do this without the invaluable support of people like Louise, who dedicate so much time and effort to raising funds for Tenovus. We would like to say a huge thank you to Louise for her generosity and wish her the best of luck for the marathon.&rdquo;</div><div style="line-height: 150%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt">Louise will be running with former work colleague Michelle Brewer who works for Cardiff County Council.
