A supported housing manager has secured a charity place for the Virgin London marathon in April running for Wales’ leading cancer charity.

Louise Webster, who works at Cymdeithas Tai Cantref in Newcastle Emlyn, will be running the London marathon on Sunday 22 April to support Tenovus.
Tenovus is a Welsh cancer charity that invests around £3.9 million each year in pioneering cancer research, education and patient care.
This will be the fourth time Louise has run the London marathon raising approximately £4,000 for MS Society, Tenovus and Amser Justin Time, the pancreatic cancer charity for Wales.
Louise said: “I have chosen once again to fundraise for a cancer charity as I know lots of people who have been and are affected by cancer; this cruel disease.
“Training is going well. I am doing four training sessions a week combining hill sessions on the bike with kettlebar workouts to build strength in the legs and of course runs. On the weekend I do a long run and am currently clocking up 13 miles in one session.”
“I would highly recommend anyone who enjoys running and want a challenge to sign up to the London Marathon or at least go along as a spectator. The excitement, comradeship and exhilaration of the day is just brilliant.”
The London marathon is one of the biggest running events in the world with 35,000 people expected to pound the street of the capital to tackle the 26.2 mile course. The event has raised over £450 million for charity since it was established in 1981.
Tenovus chief executive Claudia McVie said: “Tenovus provides essential treatment, advice and support for cancer patients and their families throughout Wales. We do this where it is needed most – right in the heart of the community.
 
“But we could not do this without the invaluable support of people like Louise, who dedicate so much time and effort to raising funds for Tenovus. We would like to say a huge thank you to Louise for her generosity and wish her the best of luck for the marathon.”
Louise will be running with former work colleague Michelle Brewer who works for Cardiff County Council. Together they have pledged to raise £3,200 for Tenovus.

Who can enter?

Anyone can nominate.

Nominees must be a Current Cantref Tenant.

Group awards - tenants that are involved in a community group (not all members of the group need to be residents of Cantref).

All entries need to be returned by Monday the 27th of June to Cymdeithas Tai Cantref, Llys Cantref, Church Lane, Newcastle Emlyn, SA38 9BN.

Tenant Awards Ceremony will be presented at Cantref's Annual General Meeting on the 21st of July, 2011.

Cantref are proud to provide an estate management service which aims to ensure that all our tenants enjoy their home without the fear of becoming a victim of anti-social behaviour. Despite our best efforts, a minority of tenants still insist on making their neighbours lives a misery on a daily basis.
 
As Registered Social Landlords, in conjunction with our partners such as the Police and Community Safety, we are given powers to address most cases of anti-social behaviour where evidence can be gathered. We always attempt to address anti-social behaviour through early intervention and offer support to both victims and perpetrators in an attempt to ensure they can both continue to enjoy their tenancies and remain in their area of choice.
 
Despite what we already have in place to tackle anti-social behaviour, we are always looking to improve.
We need to know from you if we are getting it right? 
If not, how would you like us to change the service?
 
We want to establish a focus group that will review our anti-social behaviour procedures and look at ways in which we can improve on what we already do at Cantref, the aim being to tailor the service to what is required by you as tenants.

If you feel that being involved in a group isn’t for you but would still like to give us feedback on the way Cantref deal with anti-social behaviour, again, please contact us. You may have had a particular experience or one a friend may have told you about.  Please let us know as we would like to take on board all comments - positive and negative.
